I compare Dr. Gorecki to OB/GYN Doctors because OB/GYN helps to give live to new born and Dr. Gorecki helps sick and unhappy people to be re-born and get a new HAPPY and HEALTHY life.
I am 45 years old - and I had my surgery only 6 months ago. On the date of the surgery I weigh 280 lb. and today I am 180 lb. I lost 100 lb and it was so easy to do. Before the surgery I was very sick and depressed person. I was diabetic -insulin depended for about 9 years. I was taking over 220 units of insulin a day plus 2 pills and still my sugar was over 300. I was taken medication for high blood pressure, heart condition, pain in my legs and back and depression. Even on medication for depression (I was taken it for over 8 years) I was very unhappy person. I was waiting for time of my job so I can lie in bed all day long because all my body was aching and I always felt tired. I have a beautiful family - 2 sons, husband and 2 dogs and I never enjoyed spending time with them. I always was tired, unhappy and depressed (even when I was on very strong medication for it).
2 years ago I lost my father. He was very dear to me and my biggest regret that it was to late for him to have weigh loss surgery. For the last 2 years of his life he was spending more time at the hospital than at home. He was over 350 lb taken 20 pills a day plus insulin. He was on kidney dialysis for over 5 years.
I didn't want to have the life he had - the best decision I made - to have weigh loss surgery.

09.15.2005 was the day of my surgery and now it will be my second Birth day. I am off all medications including insulin and my sugar is 105. Every morning I go for a walk with my dogs and now I am waiting for time off to spend HAPPY time with my family. I have Dr.Gorecki, Rachel-PA and staff to thank for my NEW HAPPY AND HEALTHY LIFE.

I would recommend this surgery to any one who needs it. It is easy to make a better life for yourself. You will see a big difference in your life in just a few weeks after surgery.

GOD BLESS DR. GORECKI, RACHEL AND HIS MEDICAL STAFF.

I LOVE YOU

The year was 2005, the beginning of the rest of my life thanks to Dr. Gorecki and staff. My sister had gastric bypass surgery, March of 2005 with Dr.Gorecki which made it a lot easier to stand by my decision and scheduling surgery in July 2005. The educational seminar, support group (before and after) and Dr. Gorecki’s expertise were all informative, and set my mind at ease knowing I was in such good
hands. Just went to my 9 month appointment and approximately 95 lbs down and my confidence, spirits and outlook are up. As quoted by Dr. Gorecki, I just added years to my life. I will keep you posted to my progress. Thanks to Dr. Gorecki , staff and Methodist Hospital for making this all possible.

Age 35

It was 2003 when I started doing research on gastric bypass surgery. I sought out many surgeons in order to find the right one. Upon meeting Dr. Piotr Gorecki from Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, I knew right away he was the one I would choose.

On December 16, 2004, I underwent the Roux-en-Y procedure. Dr. Gorecki and his wonderful staff were there to give me all the support I needed. His compassion for human life makes him different from other surgeons. He truly cares about his patients and their families.

My life has completely changed thanks to the surgery. After eight months post-operative, I have lost nearly 100 pounds. I am no longer suffering physically or emotionally. Words cannot describe the gratitude I have toward Dr. Gorecki's staff. They understand what it is like to go through the realm of emotions one has while making a life-changing decision, then living it one day at a time. The monthly support group has also been a blessing to me. Liana Dressner, the social worker who coordinates it, also had the surgery and even visited me in the hospital.

Having gastric bypass has given me a new lease on life. I am now able to run around with my son and stay active without being out of breath or having an asthma attack. My relationship with my husband has also improved in many ways. I feel so good about myself after twenty years of being overweight. I am so grateful to all who supported me and I am looking forward to spending the rest of my life fit and healthy. I wish anyone considering the surgery all the best to them and their families.

Thank you.

About obesity surgery ? Patients opinions and testimonials

I think one of the greatest gifts I ever gave myself, was having the surgery with DR Gorecki. I have known DR Gorecki from his Residency. I highly respected him then, so it was an easy decision to choose him as my bariatric surgeon. You must understand that the surgery is not an instant cure. It takes effort and work. But, oh, the wonderful sense of pride as you see the body change. I can walk through a park or museum without huffing and puffing. And so many other health problems are resolved. I no longer take hypertensive medication. My sleep apnea has resolved. I still have arthritis, but I don't think it will get worse now that I am no longer carrying an extra 150 pounds.

My Testimonial

My name is Danielle and I had my gastric bypass surgery on September 29, 2003 and I have lost over 100 lbs. I can honestly say that I am a new person ? physically, mentally and emotionally. I have Dr. Gorecki to thank for this.

I met with Dr. Gorecki for a consultation visit in May of 2003 and after we finished my assessment he gave me a surgery date. I had a few months to digest the reality that I was actually going to do this. As the surgery date approached I was on the fence as to whether or not I was going to go through with it. After going to a support group meeting at Methodist hospital that July my mind was made up. After seeing all the post-op patients and listening to their stories I was truly amazed. They all looked and sounded so wonderful and HEALTHY. The decision was made for me right then and there in that very meeting and it was the best decision I have ever made in my life.

Dr. Gorecki is one of the most wonderful people I have ever dealt with in my life. He?s not only a wonderful doctor and surgeon, but he?s a wonderful human being as well. He?s compassionate, he?s patient, he?s knowledgeable and he?s thorough. To find a doctor with such a warm bedside manner is very rare. Rachel (his PA) is also wonderful. She?s a pleasure to deal with any and every time I?ve seen or spoken to her in the past 18 months. I have nothing but positive things to say with regard to the gastric bypass surgery, Methodist hospital and ? most importantly ? Dr. Gorecki and his staff.

The decision to undergo gastric bypass surgery is not one to be made lightly. However, after my initial consultation with Dr Gorecki, I decided it was the right choice for me and I?ve never regretted it for a moment. It is now exactly 1 year since I had the surgery. I?ve lost over 70 lbs., but more importantly, I?ve NEVER felt healthier.

My previous medical problems (hypertension, elevated cholesterol and very severe reflux) have completely disappeared. My general everyday health is perfect. I have not even had a cold or simple headache in a year! I?m sure it must be related to my healthier eating habits and weight loss. I have so much more energy than ever before, as well as a very positive mental attitude. My only regret is that I didn?t decide to have the surgery years ago. It has truly changed my life. Thank you Dr. Gorecki!

Dr. Gorecki and the gastric bypass saved my life!!!

I was 34 years old and had spent the better part of those years hiding. I didn?t like the summer because I hated to wear less clothes. I didn?t go down the slide because I was ?too fat?. I didn?t jump into the pool because I?d make too big a splash. I didn?t get the hunk because I was the ?fat, yet funny? sidekick. I started having trouble walking. I woke up in the night because I stopped breathing. I stopped menstruating and there was some concern over whether or not I could have children. I had to test my blood sugar three times per day because it fluctuated so badly, and may have had to start insulin. I had to pay extra for larger sized clothes even at large size fashion stores. I stopped trying anything new for fear of how I would look or if others might make fun of me. I lost my confidence. I ate to cover the pain.

Today????? I eat when I am hungry, I stop when I am full. I try new things. I sleep a whole night. My only medications are an iron pill, calcium chews that taste like candy, and Flintstones chewable vitamins (remember when a purple Dino made your day start out great?) Dr. Gorecki and his team, empowered me to change my life. I look better! In turn, I feel better! I do more! I take chances! I try new things and don?t care so much how I will look! I changed my hair color! I date! About the only thing I?ve managed, or even wanted, to keep, is my sense of humor, which Dr. Gorecki assures me research indicates I will have for the extra twenty years I have probably added onto my life by having this surgery.

Honestly, I could?ve written a serious, sappy, sentimental testimonial to the wonders of the gastric bypass and Dr. Gorecki and his team of magicians, but I am sure he gets thousands of those? and besides there are absolutely NO WORDS meaningful enough to express how grateful I am to the man who gave me a chance at a new life, one wherein I call the shots and make the decisions. If only THANK YOU were enough but it isn?t and could never be. Mere words could never express what he and his team have given me.

I recommend ANYONE and EVERYONE who is thinking about this surgery, if Dr. Groecki says you are a candidate? DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since the moment the anesthesiologist pulled out my breathing tube and I realized the surgery was over and I was alive, I have never regretted this decision not a single, solitary, second! I knew this surgery was for me, for sure, the day I was laying in my post-op bed after having been wide awake for my endoscopy because with my sleep apnea it was ?too risky? to put me out totally, and the nurse asked me my surgery date and I replied 3/4/04 and she said how amazing it was that I would be able, in a few short weeks, to MARCH FORTH (3/4) into my new life. SINCE THAT DAY I HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK, EXCEPT IN PICTURES!

Dear Dr. Gorecki

I would like to say thank you first of all for being such a caring doctor. I had my surgery March 10, 2005 and I am so glad that I did it. It was definitely the right decision. When I first went to your office, I was 277 pounds and I felt miserable. My legs and ankles hurt all the time and I could not walk much. I also had GERD and I would sweat profusely even when the temperature was not that hot. I am now 163 pounds and I feel great. I can walk normally, have less pain, no GERD, and am even able to exercise which I could not do before because I could not move.

The other thing that has changed is my self-confidence. I would feel so self-conscious walking into any room full of people, afraid that they would laugh at me because I was so heavy. I still have some more weight to lose but now I do not feel like everyone is staring at me. I do not feel unusually large and enjoy socializing.

The first few months were difficult as you learn to eat properly and there were times that I had vomiting and would be miserable. But I feel that it is worth it. I would recommend WLS for those who qualify because I feel it has changed my life and continues to do so every day. It sounds crazy, but I am so happy when I have a meal in front of me and cannot eat most of it (especially when I go out to eat) because I actually feel full!

So thank you once again. I appreciate all your knowledge, skill, and caring.

Sincerely,

Sally Micciola
